Review of Black Mountain, North Carolina

Moved to the mountains only 2 years ago from a big NC city. Thought this area near Asheville would be nice, but the people here are unkind and no one associates outside of their circles unless you are family or a mom going to school in the town, otherwise it is hard to make and keep friends. The jobs are limited because it is a seasonal/tourist area, and being that it is near Ashville, and tourists visit our town, you would think the hourly wages would be a little higher, but they are not. The town people are poor, and mostly everyone in town is on unemployment or they just don't want to work. I am thinking of moving to Tennessee, only a couple hours away, cause the economy is better and the cities give more opportunity for work.

I am thinking about relocating from Michigan to NC. I am not reading very good reviews on really, well, any city in NC. :( I am 34, single, enjoy nature more than the bar, but do love to do city things, concerts, etc, am a teacher and just want some new scenery. Can anyone tell me anything good about the Asheville area??

It used to be great before the old hippies from Berkley moved to NC in order to continue to afford their lifestyles w/o working. The final cup of tea is a bunch of self righteous eco nazi trust funders who really don’t give a plumb about anything other than serving themselves. Here’s the thing, you can meet great people wherever you go. It is most unfortunate that the old Owen High School wannabe social mafia network trumps all things ethical in local businesses. Most of them never left town, married one another, and resent anyone who has worked hard in life to independently made something of themselves. Create your own happiness and ignore the rest.
